About Our Adventure

244528934_590211112326152_1568279734271709955_n_edited.jpg

Here's the scoop. We are a brother-sister duo about to take the western US by... something. It won't exactly be a storm. Probably more of a slight rain shower. Maybe a light misting with heavy wind, or something.

In a nutshell: We have both taken a multi-month leave from work to follow every kid's dream. We're runnin' away from home. We've geared up our a-frame camper, packed Abigail's SUV to the ceiling, and we're hitting the road!

Out of a nutshell: In January of 2021, my (Abigail) life was turned upside down and inside out. In the months that followed, as I worked to process the changes and find the new way forward, this crazy plan was hatched.

I had no idea (like, NO idea) what the next season had for me. I had an enormous craving to travel, take some deep breaths, see new things, and adventure! I had a brother who was about to graduate from high school. I had many people who were with me and for me in my journey telling me to GO! And so here we go!

Our plan is to take the winter to travel in the Western US to experience as many national and state parks, sunny beaches, new friends, and hidden gems as we can manage.

In a Honda Pilot and a 1998 A-Liner Off Road, we are on our way to nowhere in particular!

Who are We?

Meet Abigail

Howdy! I'm Abigail! I guess if we have to choose titles, I'm the brains of the operation. Also the cook, the accountant, the head of communications, housekeeping, the organizer, and the records-keeper. This whole crazy adventure is my wild idea and I can't even tell you how thrilled I am that it's actually happening!
So why this trip? Why now? Why so extreme? Great questions! Thanks for asking.

In January of 2021, my husband of two-and-a-half years very suddenly left me, demanding a divorce and turning my life upside-down and inside-out. Please know that I don't share this for pity. It's simply an important piece of the puzzle.
As I began the heavy work of returning my life to upside-up and inside-in, my adventurer's heart realized all the potential this new situation held. I had very little reason to stay home, I'd always wanted to try out long-term travel, and I needed to go do something way outside the box that old Abigail never would have done. Cue the birth of this brainchild!

God has been inexpressibly good to me in this season of healing and renewal, as He is in the habit of being. I have found joy and wholeness and peace in volumes I never thought possible. I would absolutely love to share more of my story with you and tell you all about the blessings I've experienced in this life-changing year!

So why this trip? To challenge myself, to leave my comfort zone a few states behind, to explore new places, meet new people, and to make a new life and new adventures in this season that I never would have chosen.

Who are We?

Meet Isaac

Heyo, my name is Isaac or Ike! I'm the brawn of this operation, as well as the navigator, security, and mechanic. I have always had a crazy adventurer's spirit! Whether it be the north shore on Lake Superior, Alaska, Arizona, or all the way to the east coast, I want to experience it all! I love seeing all of the Creator's work up close and personal. Yeah, pictures are nice, but have you ever tried climbing that mountain instead of just looking at it? Fun fact: I have been to at least 30 states. (So beat that.) I'm always down for anything hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, exploring. On a cool fall night, you could probably find me sleeping on the ground next to the campfire.
I graduated high school this past spring and had already been planning to take a gap year. So, when Abigail asked me if I wanted to run away from home, I was all in! Don't get me wrong. Home is a very good place! But remember that adventurer's heart I mentioned? Now that I'm not in school, that part of me refuses to be ignored. My plans for living a rugged life motivate everything I do.
I am really looking forward to these months of experiencing new places, trying new things, testing out a different lifestyle, and challenging myself daily.
Thanks for following along!

We have both worked hard this summer to save up the funds needed to make this adventure possible and spectacular. We felt this was a journey to be taken only if the Lord opened the doors for us. He certainly has done that in many ways, finances included! We are praising up a storm!!

Alright, now that that's out of the way, I'll add this: If you would like to send us a few bucks to get that dessert with dinner or take those surfing lessons, we would be so thankful and would probably even send you a postcard with some nice words on it. Win-win!

You can send gifts to AbigailRNielsen on Venmo or CashApp. (I promise I'll share.)
